Event: Rachmaninoff's The Bells. Edgar Allan Poe's poetry inspired Rachmaninoff's dramatic choral symphony that conveys a range of moods. Also, on this special Mother's Day weekend program, listen to the jazzy rhythms of Gershwin and the powerful energy of Prokofiev as George Li, International Tchaikovsky Competition silver medalist, brings his magic to the keyboard.

Event: Comicpalooza. Keep mom young by taking her to Houston's biggest pop culture festival of the year. From celebrity guests such as Emilia Clarke, known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen, the mother of dragons on "Game of Thrones," to John Barrowman from "Doctor Who," you'll get to see the legends. There's also the popular Cosplay competition on Saturday night and a Kid's Cosplay on Sunday afternoon.
When: Convention: Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to midnight; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Exhibit hall: Friday, noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Event: Boats and books. Take mom to for a leisurely kayak ride around Kinder Lake. Rentals are $5 and provided by Bayou City Adventures. Combine the boating with relaxing "Sunday in the Park" activities, where you'll hear music, enjoy lawn games and browse through books at the Houston Public Library's outdoor reading room.
When: Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. – kayaking; "Sunday in the Park," 3 to 5 p.m.
Where: Discovery Green Conservancy, 1500 McKinney
