METRO is celebrating 40 years of service this year.
Four decades ago, back in January 1979, METRO began operations with an aging fleet of 400 vehicles. It has since grown to a network of more than 1,200 buses, three light-rail lines, paratransit services, high-occupancy vehicle lanes and high-occupancy toll lanes, and 27 Park & Ride facilities.
At last Thursday's board meeting, METRO Chair Carrin Patman acknowledged those achievements in a proclamation presented to METRO.
METRO President & CEO Tom Lambert accepted the honor on behalf of the agency. Lambert launched his career at the agency 40 years ago as a security investigator and helped create the METRO Police Department.
We'll be releasing a series of 40 short videos throughout the year, highlighting our accomplishments. Watch the first one below. Happy Anniversary, METRO!
