METRO started the new year with a huge back-to-school event at HCC's international student orientation last Friday.
Several hundred students from around the world heard how METRO provides one of the best bargains in town with half-price fares (60-cents) for students on our local buses or trains. Students learned how to ride and how to use a METRO Q® Fare Card. They were instructed to go to the registrar's office where school officials were ready to issue the discounted fare cards.
METRO staff also introduced the enhanced METRO TRIP App with the My Stop technology, which causes one's phone to vibrate – and the vibration grows increasingly stronger – as one gets closer to one's bus stop.
"At METRO, we understand that our future riders are millennials. School orientations allow us to continue to deliver transit education and share success stories with new and existing students," said Danicel Whitaker, vice president of Ridership Services. "Making transit available and investing in millennials is vital to METRO – converting drivers to riders within the educational system is a critical component to future transit sustainability."
METRO has scheduled back-to-school events on how to ride METRO at UH-D, Rice University, and TSU in the coming weeks.
If you're headed back to school this semester, be sure to pick up your student fare card. You can apply online, by mail or in person at our RideStore at 1900 Main. Then, save money and discover a convenient way to get around town.
