Get smart on your next move

As the end of the year approaches, you may be searching for a new home. May we encourage you to become a part of METRO's Smart Apartment Program – and find a lifestyle where you can take public transit to go where you want.

Our interactive map allows you to mouse over the part of town you'd like to call home, click a bubble, and the name and address of an apartment will pop up on the left. All the apartment complexes in our program are located within one-half mile or less from a bus stop or light-rail line. You'll find easily accessible METRO service with buses arriving every 20 minutes or less.

"Essentially the METRO Smart Apartment Program is a revitalized partnership between METRO, apartment owners and managers to benefit tenants.  It is designed to enhance the quality of life for the apartment communities located adjacent to METRO services, making them a walkable, sustainable and accessible option," said Danicel Whitaker, vice president of Ridership & Client Services.

If you select an apartment complex in METRO's Smart Apartment Program, you'll receive a free METRO Q® Fare Card with $5 pre-loaded on it. Local fare is only $1.25.

In addition to boarding our buses or trains with just a tap of the card, you can show this Q Card to get discounts at area restaurants and museums.

So, make a smart move if you're searching for a home. Make sure your next place is a "smart apartment."

If you're an owner or manager of an apartment complex and want to join our Smart Apartment Program,  become a partner by contacting or call 713-739-4015. It's free and only takes a few days to get started.

"Our collaboration seeks to add a value proposition to the concept sweeping Houston, which is to create desirable places to live, work and play and connect with transit," said Whitaker.
