Labor Day Schedule

The first Labor Day was celebrated in 1882 in New York City, planned by the Central Labor Union. Since then, the first Monday in September honors the labor movement and the social and economic achievements of all American workers, says the U.S. Department of Labor.

As we get ready to celebrate the long weekend, METRO will be operating on a Labor Day schedule. On Monday, Sept. 3, Labor Day, here’s the rundown:

  • Local buses will run on a Sunday schedule.
  • METRORail will run on a Sunday schedule.
  • Park & Ride service will be suspended.
  • All HOV/HOT lanes will be closed.
  • RideStores will be closed, as well as Lost & Found.
  • The Customer Care Center will open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Call 713-635-4000 or 713-635-6993 (TDD).

If you are riding METROLift, here’s what you need to know:

  • METROLift Reservations and METROLift Customer Service offices will be closed.
  • Monday subscriptions trips will be canceled. To schedule a trip for Monday, Sept. 3, or Tuesday, Sept. 4, you must call the METROLift reservation line at 713-225-6716 this Friday, Aug. 31 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • You may also schedule a trip the day before travel by using MACS (METROLift Automated Call System) at 713-739-4690 or MACS-WEB or MACS-WEB screen reader version from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Have your client ID and password handy.
