Can you believe it's August already? This summer is just flying by. But don't let this weekend fly by without some fun with the family. I'm recommending two free events, an outdoor movie (Godzilla!) and a night on the town in the Heights. In addition, "Jurassic Quest" is in town with a whole bunch of dinosaurs and related exhibits and attractions. Let's call this a monster weekend.
Dinosaurs didn't have the advantages of public transportation. But you do, and METRO can take you to any of these events. Just use the Trip Planner to find the routes and schedules to reach your weekend destinations. It definitely beats paying for gas and parking, and you can use your money for fun events every weekend.
Event: Jurassic Quest. The kids can enjoy a full day of getting up close and personal with dinosaurs, along with dinosaur rides, movies, fossil digs, informative exhibits, crafts, games and more. The website describes all the attractions and schedules, and tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

Where: NRG Center, 1 NRG Pkwy.

Event: Godzilla Outdoor Film Party. What a treat! Celebrate the end of summer by viewing the original, restored 1954 Japanese version of Godzilla with English-language subtitles. This free screening will be outside on the Festival Lawn but will move inside in case of rain. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, snacks and beverages. There will be a food truck on-site also. Practice your monster voice for the "Best Godzilla Roaring" contest. Admission is free, but please RSVP as soon as you read this post, so they know how many people to expect.

Event: 12th Annual White Linen Night in the Heights. Put on your best all-white ensemble and join the crowd for this annual night out. Expect art displays, live music, boutique discounts, parties, and plenty of people-watching.
