This is a guest post by Darla Bell, manager of Strategic Analysis in Communications & Marketing.

It's a good weekend for musical theater – and I've found a show for the adults and one for the kiddies.  Sistas will keep your toes tapping to a wide range of music from 1919 to the present, and Pinkalicious brings to life a popular children's book.  The Heights community also hosts its monthly celebration and art market this weekend, and that's always a fun evening out.

Hop on METRO for easy transportation to these events and many more.  East side, west side…there's going to be a bus or train to take you there.  A visit with the trusty Trip Planner will help you with the details of routes and times, and you can travel with confidence.  Onward to the weekend!

Event: Sistas, the Musical.  A regional premier, this work features five female friends, who take a musical and historical journey through the songs that were anthems marking social change.  You'll enjoy music from the era of the black blues singers up to modern hip-hop, and join the friends in their memories.  Tickets can be purchased through the website.

When: Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Where: Ensemble Theatre, 3535 Main St.

Getting there*:

Bus – 9 Gulfton/Holman

METRORail – Red Line (exit Ensemble/HCC Station)

Event: Pinkalicious, The Musical.  Based on a popular children's book, this delightful musical is recommended for pre-kindergartners and up.  Pinkalicious loves all things pink, especially pink cupcakes.  See what happens when she eats too many of them.  Tickets can be purchased online.  Note that children under the age of 3 are not allowed in the theater.

When: Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Where: MATCH, 3400 Main St.

Getting there*:

Bus – 9 Gulfton/Holman

METRORail – Red Line (exit Ensemble/HCC Station)

Event: First Saturday Arts Market in the Heights.  It's the first Saturday of the month, so you can revel in all the festivity that this free market provides.  That includes food, live music, people-watching, and the chance to browse or buy fine art and all kinds of other goodies.  How can I describe it?  It's just a good time.

When: Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m.

Where: 540 West 19th St.

Getting there*:

Bus – 26 Long Point/Cavalcade, 27 Shepherd, 40 Telephone/Heights

*Suggested connections as provided by our Customer Care Center; more convenient routes may vary per individual needs.
