Car-free in Houston? Yes, you can!

This is a guest post by social media specialist Ramonica Jones.

It's summer time in the city, and that means road-tripping, paying more to fill 'er up, and forking over maintenance fees to keep your vehicle in tip-top shape.

But not having a car doesn't have to take the sizzle out of your summer. Your family can still get around Space City with ease, courtesy of METRO. Hop on board a bus or train to check out the latest art exhibit, plan a picnic in the park, take in a taco festival or anything else on your to-do list.

Living a car-free life in Houston is affordable, environmentally-responsible, adventurous and just plain cool! METRO buses and rail lines allow quick access to the excitement of downtown, Uptown, the Houston Zoo, and a lot of places in between. Fun fact: Houston recently ranked 20th out of the Top 100 best cities to go car-less!

Summer is the best time to consider a car-free lifestyle. METRO's Summer of Fun program allows students to ride the system for free, June 1- Sept. 1. All students in grades K-12, including homeschooled, and college are eligible.

We want to know: Did you choose to live in a location where you could use mass transit as an option to move around the city?

You could be featured in a Car-Free segment! If interested, please send us a private message via Facebook or Twitter and a member of our Media team may contact you. Check out our latest Car-Free feature starring Dr. John Cisneros.
