It's the weekend leading into spring break for many, and there are lots of things to do. I'm recommending a free concert at Discovery Green, a performance of Cirque du Soleil's Corteo, and (drumroll) the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. How's that for a fun-filled three days?
The great thing about the rodeo is that it goes on through March 18, so you can take the nippers there any day during the week that they're off school. Also, if you're a zoo member, you can get in an hour early (8 a.m.) Monday-Friday next week, and they have some extra activities for the kids.
METRO is eager to take you and your family to any or all these events. You'll want to get out and about during spring break, but don't stress yourself with traffic and parking. Just relax, and enjoy the time with your family. The Trip Planner will be your guide to how to get around on our buses and trains, so just enter your information, and head on out. Wow – a whole week with the kids off school – hope you make it.
Event: 2018 French Cultures Festival Kick-Off Concert. The Cultural Service of the French Embassy in Houston presents the free, family-friendly French Cultures Festival kick-off concert. You'll enjoy contemporary bands from France and other countries, as well as local talents, with a mix of pop, soul and folk sounds from The Blind Suns, Tomar and the FCs, and The Great Novel. You'll also enjoy a selection of tasty French delicacies. The concert kicks off a month-long celebration with a variety of events designed to create awareness of the diversity of contemporary French culture.

Event: Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Everyone looks forward to another fun visit to the rodeo. You know how much there is to do and see there – check the online schedule for all the events, concerts, and…just everything. You can eat, shop, ride the rides, sing along with your favorite country and western singers, visit the animals, and so much more. It's a Houston tradition. Put on your boots and go. I didn't know this, but corteo means cortege in Italian, and the show is a festive parade celebrating the well-lived life of a clown, "an artist whose life was dedicated to revelry and making merry." You'll be charmed and amazed by the sights and sounds of this spectacle.
Tickets can be purchased online.
When: Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 1 and 5 p.m.
