It's been a strange week in Houston with the ice and snow that we normally don't experience. I hope everyone was safe and warm during this period. All of you are probably eager to get out of the house, so here are some possibilities for your weekend pleasure.
I'm recommending a lively Broadway musical performance, a free park grand opening celebration, and the very last chance to skate with "Storybook Stars" at Discovery Green before the ice rink season ends on Sunday.
Like all of us, METRO had its problems with the weather this week, but everything is back to normal, and the buses and trains are waiting to whisk you off to weekend outings. Just visit the Trip Planner to find the routes and schedules that will take you to your destination and back again. We don't appreciate how easy it is to travel around until we have a couple of days when that's difficult to do!
Event: Kinky Boots. We should be very familiar with boots after the frigid weather we just experienced, but Kinky Boots isn't exactly about snow boots. The music is by Grammy and Tony-winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper, direction and choreography are by two-time Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell ("Legally Blonde," "Hairspray"), and the book was written by Broadway legend and four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein ("La Cage Aux Folles") – wow, what credentials! "Kinky Boots" is the winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Choreography. Friends tell me that this is a must-see production. Buy your tickets online.

The free, all-day event will feature food trucks, live music, family-friendly fun like face painting, and a preview of activities the park will offer, such as fitness classes. There will also be park tours, games, a photo booth, and music with DJ Sun. A free party – what's not to like about that?
