Behind the scenes, METRO employees were busy spreading good cheer to kids who are either grieving from the loss of a loved one or seriously ill in the hospital.
METRO Blue Santa, a non-profit organization of METRO employees in blue, plus other METRO employee elves, banded together to raise money and host two events last week: a holiday party at Bo's Place and one at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital.
METRO Blue Santa hosted a holiday dinner of kid-favorite eats, along with a chance for photos with Santa (joyfully played by Lt. Ted Naradovy). And Blue Santa made some wishes come true for Bo's Place, a non-profit bereavement center that helps grieving families: T-shirts for newcomers, a child-size hospital bed in the activity room and play sand.
"Seeing the little children light up and hug Santa was a real treat! Your volunteers were absolutely the best in my book," said Carla Bagalay, volunteer coordinator at Bo's Place.
Last Saturday, Blue Santa and his elves made hospital halls festive with a holiday party that included cookies, crayons, coloring books and stuffed animals for very sick children. Even some doctors and nurses joined in for photos with Santa.
The next time you see METRO employees, you better watch out. They could be Santa's elves in their off-hours.
Ho, ho, ho!
