Abusive Partner? Here's Help

DomesticAbuseChild.jpg

Domestic violence is an epidemic.

Consider these alarming stats:

  • Three women are murdered every day by a current or former male partner in the U.S.
  • 4,774,000 in the U.S. experience physical violence by an intimate partner every year.
  • 1 in 4 women will be victims of severe violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

If you ride our buses, you'll see cards on display, urging anyone who is a victim of domestic violence to get free legal help.

Call (713)224-9911. You'll get free legal advice for protective orders, divorce, child custody/child support and counseling and support. This is sponsored by AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse), a nonprofit group, whose mission is to end family violence by advocating for the safety of victims, promoting accountability for abusers and fostering a community response. METRO is partnering with AVDA by printing cards and displaying them on our buses.

You are not alone. There's help available from someone who cares.
