Honesty is the Best Policy

FareEvasionPoster.jpg

Houston's transit system offers one of the best bargains in town. You can board our local buses or trains for only $1.25, one way. And if you're a student, you ride for half price.

But paying your fare depends on the honesty system. Tap your METRO Q® Fare Card to hop on the bus or train. There are no turnstiles on our platforms.

What happens if you don't pay? We have fare checkers wearing neon yellow vests who randomly check to see if riders have paid. The first time that happens, you'll most likely get a warning. But you could also get a citation – up to $500.

You would also be summoned to appear in court. You can avoid that by paying a $75 administrative fee. Read more details here.

But the best thing to do is remember and follow what most of us learned in kindergarten: Honesty is the best policy.
