Harvey's Coming, METRO Gets You Home Early

 StaySafeStayInformed.png

For those of you who commuted to the office this morning, METRO will be able to take you home early on our Park & Ride service.

Outbound trips will begin at noon today but buses will be on the main lanes. At 1 p.m.,  HOV lanes will open.

Harvey intensified into a Category 2 hurricane overnight and continues to grow in power, and forecasters predict it will make landfall as a Category 3 with winds up to 110 mph.  Area school districts and universities have announced closings, expecting heavy rain and flooding this weekend.

Gov. Abbot has declared a state of disaster for 30 Texas counties, including Harris County. By now, many gas stations have sold out of gas, and there was no bread on the shelves at HEB and Costco last night. Some last-minute tips to be prepared: Fill your bathtub with water to use for washing hands and flushing toilets. Don't forget food for Fido and prescription meds for five days. Find more tips here.

If Harvey approaches Houston, should you stay or shelter in place?

Here's what the Texas General Land Office advises. Always evacuate your home if you live in a mobile home or temporary structure; in a high-rise building; on the coast; on a floodplain; near a river; on a peninsula or barrier island; in any Federal Flood Insurance Zone; in certain wood frame structures or lightly constructed buildings; or in an area that has been directed to evacuate by local authorities.

Be sure to sign up for our real-time service alerts to find out about our latest service changes. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and our website.

Our RideStore extended school hours have been postponed and will be closed on Saturday. It will close at 6 p.m. today until further notice. You can get your student Q® Fare Card online here and ride METRO for half price.

Stay safe, everyone!

Why didn't this alert come through the Metro alert system I signed up for?  Had I known I could have left downtown already.
